+10 Underworld Trading Efficiency
+2 Biochem Critical

Formerly the notorious smuggler and confidence man Tyresius Lokai, Gault Rennow now enjoys a relatively paranoia-free lifestyle as an unknown gun-for-hire. Still, old habits are hard to shake, and Gault's cautiousness and duplicity are a constant reminder that the only thing to really change is his name. How long until the crafty Devaronian finds himself climbing up the galaxy's most wanted list again is anyone's guess.

I picked up this one horned, deceptive, scum last night and took him for a test drive.
After 2 quests I'm ready to leave him on my ship and let him run all my Underworld missions.
His single target dps is too slow and his aoe dps is way to low. (I tested both stances)
I can take down a crowd of targets or a single target much faster with Mako and I end with a lot higher health.
EDIT
I got to thinking (oops), I must have missed something. So I went back and pulled up his talent bar. Sure enough all but 3 items were turned off! Which meant that NONE of his aoe's were on.
Now that they are all on, I can run him in Assault mode and take down mobs with a lot more speed.
Because of his slow snipe ability I have taken to giving him an attack command before I start my attack. If there is an elite of any level then that is his target.
OK, so we can take them down faster now but I still have to stand and recharge after the fight. So overall, the time per fight works roughly the same as with Mako.
Maybe if I gear him up...
Jeez he's ugly!
The best thing about Gault is that he can use the same gear you have equipped Mako with (you did that, right?), so you only need to keep one set up to date. Gear doesn't bind between companions unless it's the quest reward stuff that starts with their character name, but you can buy/craft way better than that.
Apart from his sniper rifle, but that is moddable - don't be fooled by the fact it's green. Get him the best cunning barrel you can ASAP. You can still bring out Mako for tough elite fights, strip off all the other gear & swap it around.
For most easy combat this guy rips stuff up fast. The trick is to turn off all his AoE abilities, and also shield, he don't need no shielding, and it shares a cooldown with the DPS-boost (combat acumen). Make sure sniper mode is enabled, and all the single target abilities.
Then set him to attack (CTRL+1) the strong silver enemy in a pack if there is one, he does excellent single target damage, and you focus on nuking the rest. This also splits the incoming damage between you, meaning much less recharge time after fights.
As a tank this is a no-brainer for max levelling efficiency. As DPS it's probably a toss-up between him and Mako for overall speed. As a healer yourself...no idea, but probably the best option when you get him as he's going to kill stuff faster than Mako.
If his greedy, cowardly ways in conversations offend your heroic play style there's always the option of swapping someone else in too!
I can't wait for someone to be named Charles... so every idiot can say it's a reference to Charles Xavier. No, wait, Charles Darwin. Charles Dickens, maybe. How about Charles Schwab.
Believe it or not, names are names, they're not inherently references to anything or anyone with remotely similar pronunciations of a word. If the only thing you have to go on for a reference is a vaguely similar pronunciation and nothing else, as a reference, odds are it's not a reference and you're an idiot.
Um... actually Star Wars Galaxies had "Mabari" armor in it too. Long before Bioware made Dragon age.
