As of March 26 on the 1.2 PTS, 2V-R8 gains the following affection from level 1 gifts from a female toon:

Courting: 0
Cultural: 96
Imperial: 24
Luxury: 24
Military: 0
Republic: 0
Technology: 54
Trophy: 0
Underworld: 0
Weapon: 0

Edit: Patch 1.2 is now live, and I've confirmed that these numbers are still correct for both male and female toons.

2V-R8 is available to all Imperial players once you acquire your starship at the end of your class story on Dromund Kaas (around roughly level 15-17).

As of patch 1.2 you can now gain affection with C2-N2 and 2V-R8. Listed below are the gifts in order from most points to least, those not listed give 0 points toward affection.

Cultural Artifacts: Love

You can also purchase a Repair Droid for your ship (requires Legacy 7 and costs 1 million credits) that sells Sensor Units that give them upgrades for crafting (cost 100 thousand credits each):

Engineering Droid Sensor:
+5 Scavenging Efficiency
+5 Cybertech Critical

Exploration Droid Sensor:
+5 Archaeology Efficiency
+5 Synthweaving Critical

Hunter Droid Sensor:

This guy is highly annoying BUT once geared, was able to heal me very well all the way through mid 30s. Since the Sith Inquisitors do not have a healer until later, he was very helpful while my more specialized companions ran crewskills with much success.

As of now, companion gifts have no effect on him.

He is primarily a crafting / mission mule. Every other companion will be better for you at their intended role than the droid is. Other than crafting he is only good for your self esteem with all of his bootlicking comments.

For those wondering who voiced him, it was Anthony Daniels, famous for his role as C-3PO.
I personally love boarding my ship and having him greet me.
"

This is incorrect, Anthony Daniels did not do any of the voice acting in SWTOR.

Check his skills. He is not made to tank.

in patch 1.2 these will be the changes that will happen to this guys (copy and paste)

The C2 Droid Corporation and their competitors, the 2V Droid Corporation, have developed a series of new sensors for their products, the C2-N2 and 2V-R8 that significantly improve the Droids' Crew Skill efficiency and critical success chances. These products may be purchased via the Legacy Repair Astromech unit on the player's ship (once unlocked).

Additionally, the C2-N2 and 2V-R8 Droids have had their personality matrices upgraded with an experimental emotional response chip, allowing them to accept gifts and tokens of appreciation. The Crew Skill performance of these units will increase upon acceptance of these goods.

C2-N2 and 2V-R8 have been reprimanded and now vocalize less frequently on personal starships.

Loves CULTURAL ARTIFACTS for companion gifts.

He's guaranteed to be worse even at crafting and gathering than other companions since affection levels affect success rates and his affection is stuck at 0/10000.

It seems at the moment it can't use any weapon, but its armor upgradable to improve its healing abilities.

I tested to see which items gained affection with him now that 1.2 is out.

Cultural Artifacts: LOVES! +96 affection rank 1 gifts
Technology and Imperial memorabilia: Likes +54 affection rank 1 gifts
Everything else is +0
He might like courting later but I doubt it.

Hope this helps

As far as healing companions go, 2V-R8 has the same base healing power as Mako. Their primary stats are the same.

As of lvl 28, they both have the same healing abilities.. Med Scan, Field Dress, Cleanse, Kolto Jolt and Med Watch. Except when I tested their heals, Mako healed around 3% more comparing the same spell results. IMO 2V-R8 is a fine healing companion until a better one comes along. The down side is he comes 'naked' and has to be outfitted to be worth it (his clothing comes from Cybertech).

He's not a great companion or anything, but don't overlook that he's naked when you obtain him (as opposed to all other companions, who at least have a starter set of gear). If you're a class that has no real personal healing, and don't obtain your healing companion until a later planet -- Sith Assassins and Snipers come to mind -- then he can ABSOLUTELY be an asset if you invest in some gear for him. Did the Colocoid Broodmaster with him on my Assassin, after dying several times, and it was pretty easy. I'm sure there are other examples.

For crew skills, I mostly just send him on crafting missions at the start, though once you have enough companions and a decent amount of credits, it's likely you'll have him in the rotation with everyone else, since, y'know, why not.

And there I was hoping to get rid of all those useless luxury and courting gifts dumping them on the droids. But they don't want it either. What a shame.

He is really useful for crafting/gathering. I've gotten really good rewards sending him on splicing missions.

Great way to solo a lot of harder hitting mobs early on in the game. Like the above posters said you get him once you get your ship as an imperial and if you grind the class quest you can get your ship as low as 15. That is when i got mine please feel free to add if anyone has gotten it sooner.

i decked him out with all the parts, he still sucks balls compared to mako (BH healer companion). He does not do much more than 60 damage on an attack QQ, and he runs around to position himself to do these melee swings he really shouldnt be doing. And without a weapon he wont fire his carbonite stream and he only has the ability to equip an offhand... ok whats that about? Basically they nerfed this companion to *!@# before they released.

I still use him, but only when i have all my companions out on missions. The 15% reduc (some think crit and success rate are affected by affection too) to crafting is too good to pass up so i will always send my other guys out to do the missions.

I got the ship and him as well at level 12, I just ran through Dromund Kaas dying often... The only problem is the fight with Darth Skorpio, but I had help with him.

i Really don't care when or how soon people got this guy, is it worth it to get him gear? i healer would be nice for my SIth Jug. However if he is still a crappy tank fully geared then i won't waste my credits.

Thanks

I was able to get my ship at lvl 12 as a sorc. It can be done sooner, but you will need help. The more you focus on your class quests and skip the rest, the sooner you will get it. You won't survive any other planets until you level more, so getting it early is just more of a bragging point unless you intend to utilize the droid for crafting missions. As was stated above, he's not that great a healer. Maybe with better gear on, but guess what you need for that.... lvl's!

By Rezo3 at 2011-12-26 22:30:00
Useless, as a Sith Warrior i tried gear it, but you get Malavai Quinn on Balmorra and Malavai is geared alredy, this one doesnt so he will be always a step behind... Worthless and VERY ANNOYING.

i've had my droid do several diplomatic missions and he's failed about 30-40% of them

He's useless AND annoying (he doesnt heal better than any heal/dd companion and gives no crafting bonuses). I wish I could scrap him or, at least, make him SHUT UP!
