LR-5 Sentinel Droid

LR-5 Sentinel Droid is the first boss and one of the more difficult encounters in this flashpoint. When you enter the room you will see 4 large generator coils and stasis tanks lining the room. These will become major mechanics of the fight. When you click the console in the room the fight will begin. This boss has 2 main attacks that need to be watched for:

Incinerate- 2 second channeled cast that applies 3 stacks of a DoT effect on nearby targets. This hits very hard and must be interrupted every time. A single stack can easily rid a tank of 50% of his health, any more can easily wipe the group. This has a priority interrupt over any other ability. It has a ~12 second cooldown.

Plasma Arc- This seems to be a lightening attack that doesn't do much damage, but if available it should be interrupted, provided you wont miss the next incinerate due to cooldown.

(HARD MODE) Experimental Cannon- The boss will stand in place and target a random player. It will channel an uninterruptable auto-fire like attack that doesn't do much damage. If he is line of sighted the cast will stop. The main issue with this is that the boss may standing in a spot where it can't be attacked and when it finishes may immediately cast incinerate. We found the best way to counter this was to have the whole group LoS him around a generator so that when he stopped casting he was pulled over to the group before this could happen.

If you have 2 or more interrupts one person, usually the tank, should be assigned to strictly interrupt incinerate, while the others focus on plasma arc.

Generator Coils- Throughout the fight everyone but the player who has aggro on the boss will be randomly targeted and have a plasma grenade launched at them. A blue circle will be placed on the ground 1 second before it lands, and when it hits a plasma field will form and slowly expand. It will be come quite large with a diameter of 10-15 meters. Only 4 will remain up at a time, so the best strategy is to plan where they will land, or things will get very messy very fast. With a melee heavy group the boss will need to be kited around the outside of the room with everyone keeping fairly close together, however not so close as to be slammed by incinerate every time. Dps should try to stay behind the boss to avoid this. If your group is all ranged dps this is much easier to counter as they can stick with the healer and run around the outside of the room planning the plasma fields while the tank stays in the middle. Once your group gets this mechanic the fight will get a little bit easier.

Stasis Tanks- These tanks contain infected soldiers and rakgouls that will be released in waves throughout the fight. They are weak enemies and should be easily picked off by the dps as soon as they come out.

(HARD MODE) Lava Pool- The floor around the boss is a metal grate with a pool of lava under this. It should be easy to see the grid on the floor. During the fight the lava will churn and spray up through about half of the floor at a time in no particular pattern. It hits for ~2500 on medium armor. This is not a major source of damage but can be avoided.

At 15% health the boss will go in to a burn phase. During this plasma fields will come out fully expanded with no target discretion and (Hard mode) the lava will spray up for the whole grid every few seconds. All cooldowns should be used in this phase and everyone should be constantly moving, no standing still. When the boss finally dies, you can stop and take a deep breath and collect your loot. Congratulations, on to the next boss.

From various patch notes:

Patch 1.4.0

  • LR-5 Sentinel Droid's Discharge now gives players a 4.5-second warning in Story Mode (and a 3-second warning in Hard Mode) before activating its ground effect. Players can now move the impending effect away from the group or tank. Plasma Arc no longer has an activation time and is executed while moving, and Incinerate is correctly marked as area of effect damage.
  • In Story Mode, LR-5 Sentinel Droid's Discharge ground effects have a longer duration before growing in size, and it is limited to 3 active effects at one time. Incinerate's damage has been reduced, its damage over time effect can be dispelled, and it is now only applied to its primary target (instead of nearby targets).

Patch 1.2.4

  • LR-5 Sentinel Droid now reliably activates his Plasma Coils during the encounter.
