Just to be clear, if you want to betray Malora, talk to her, get the brain, but don't give it to her. Turn it in, and you'll then get an option to betray her by calling her a traitor. Total is +150 DS points for completing the quest this way.

As of the latest patch, if you choose the light side option to help Malora she will no longer send you a mail yelling at you. I recieved the following note with 28 credits but no fortitude stim:

"What you did for me, moving against Lord Renning, was risky and took vision. The overseers are beginning to talk. Soon the Dark Council will see my master for the lunatic that he is. Now I hear you're close to completing your trials. I've sent a small gift. A sign of respect and thanks. Never let it be said I was slow to see the next Sith Lord in the making.

Be well, Sith, and remember me later.
Malora"

Its not a matter of betraying one person to another, so much as discrediting the man's work. He's working towards major breakthroughs in knowledge of the Dark Side of the Force. Should his work be discredited, its essentially a gain for the Light Side. Hence, the LS gain.

edarien, I think the idea is that the brain really does provide a connection to the Dark Side (Renning is not full of #$%^). And discrediting his research would cause the Sith not to make that discovery. Anti-Sith undermining would be Light Side I think? Anyway, the first time I played this, I hoped I could turn Malora in. The double cross is my favorite form of evil deeds.

I think the rewards have been updated for this. I got

120 credits
2080 exp
150 DS points
Warrior Boots

(I turned Malora in)

Yes, I think the mail you get from her afterwards is bugged (if you choose to help her). She shouldn't want us dead after that.

You will also get an angry e-mail that Malora is forced to write by her Master with a reward. I received 2 Basic Fortitude.

It's not bugged. She is angry because her gambit has failed to get her released and now she is being sent into the tombs to get her Master specimens. She knows her death is only a matter of time.

Am I the only one that can't figure out how to plant the bait? I right clicked it, put it in an action bar, and i can't get it to do anything.

Are you supposed to get the angry email from Malora even if you help her and don't betray her? Because I did... but maybe I'm just missing something here?

To be honest I never understood why the rewards worked the way they did for this quest. You get light side points for exposing Renning as a fraud (which he clearly is), but the Sith way is for an apprentice to betray their master. It seems like you'd get DS points for helping Malora betray her master and expose him. Getting DS points for selling her out is still a viable option, but the alternative should ALSO be DS points (although perhaps less)

It's plausible. I suppose she could be angry at you because she got caught and blames you through some relatively twisted logic.

No, she's being sent on other missions for him, since the dark council wants him to do more research, and is upset at you for not bringing the brain to her.

Just to be extra extra clear because I think I've been awake too long and misunderstood DarthMel's advice. You can accept Malora's Quest, but don't turn it into her... if you want the DS points, don't go back to her at all, don't even look at her :P I really wanted to turn her in! Oh well. :/

Taking the brain to Malora first earns you 50 Light Side. I also received 157 Credits and 1510 Experience.

Taking the brain to Renning gives you 50 Dark Side, 157 credits, and 1510 experience. You get 100 bonus Dark Side for revealing Malora as a traitor (plus a fun cut scene).

Thanks for the heads up. I did this quest in Beta and chose to betray him to her. I still can't seem to understand how betraying your questgiver for some credits and her personal gain gives you lightside points! But also I'm glad to know that you get the same rewards for NOT turning him in, since I both want the DS points and the most experience, etc possible. I was afraid that by skipping a quest then it would gimp you on the exp. Thanks :)
