Anyone else having their companions grow more affection then these guides let on? Is there a reason?

Tracking the Republic
Sergeant Ritter reports that the Republic has been using short-range relays to track the Empire's movements on Hoth. He needs you to activate one of the Republic's data relays so he can jam it.
Steal a data card from one of the Republic scouts in the Icefall Plains so you can activate the data relay.
