There are two progression paths in the Black Talon mission that depends on whether the captain is alive or not. To get to the treasure chest that has a chance to drop this armor piece, as Olizandriz said said, the captain must be ALIVE. One thing to note is that you will need to complete the bonus mission (Kill 40 or 45? Republic) before you engage the main group (Sgt. Boran and company). If you kill the main group without completing the bonus mission you wont be able to get the treasure that drops this piece. I have done this path twice and it seems to be correct but if someone has another experience please let us know.

Well I've tried to get this .... Run this solo on my Jugg Warrior and after looting the chest at Sgt Boran about 20 times it still hasn't appeared. Got the Imp Agent one 3 times and the Med arm Warrior one once, but still have yet to see this one

Dropps from Sergeant Boran, when the Republic comes to Black Talon, this boss in Unlocked when you do NOT kill the captain.

Worldoftor has this as a zone drop. I've farmed Black Talon and have gotten a total of three zone drops. No body armor so far.

Edit: btw im running this as a sniper and all the sargeant's chest is dropping is the orange Operative's overcoat thingy. Could the chest drop loot only for the classes present?

Some say random zone drop, some say Sgt. Boran.
Would be awesome if someone who actually got it, or have seen it drop could enlighten us to whether we should farm the Sergeant or just clear the whole place.

It says zone drop because technically the boss doesn't drop the item, it's looted from a chest.

While I was farming Black Talon solo for this drop, I happened to get a loading screen tip that got me thinking. The tip said that grouping gives experience and loot bonuses. So my guess is that some items, like this one, just won't drop if you're solo. I believe that it will drop items that the group can use more often than other items as well. This explains why you get so many of the Juggernaut gauntlets from the first boss fights when you try to farm for this body armor. I will run this with a group a few times and report back if I get it.

I've run Sgt. Boran solo several times, and the chest has yet to drop any rares for me.

At least ten runs my self trying for it and only the gloves have dropped for me. And the operative's coat once.

Has anyone verified it only drops from the light side choice? I've heard that both the Light side and Dark side boss share the same loot table.

@ metasher: I just killed Sgt. Boran without doing the bonus mission, I was still able to loot the chest (I do remember it bugging on another character once when I was running it with a group). However, I've gotten the damn Jugg gauntlets 3 times in a row :(

So far I've ran this one 20 times. 10 while killing all 40 and 10 while dashing for Sgt Boran. Results were:

3x Marauder chest
16x Juggernaut gloves
1x Hunter boots
1x bugged chest that wouldn't open.

Either I'm terribly unlucky or the drop rate is abysmal.

I belive this is a random zone drop, it can drop from any mob in BT...
