Red Matrix Shard Locations:

Ord Mantell (Republic) - Coordinates: 770, 134 - Located on the beach on the north side of Mannett Point
Korriban (Imperial) - Coordinates: -54, 379 - Located in the Tomb of Tulak Hord area
Hoth - Corrdinates: -738, 1705 - Located in the southeastern part of Highmount Ridge at the back of an ice mountain/hill. You must purchase a Hydro-Thinner from the Cantina vendor in your faction's base for 18,000 credits in order to thaw out the datacron from its ice enclosure. *NOTE* If you are doing this in a group, only one person needs the Hydro-Thinner.
Ilum - Corrdinates: 543, 544 - Located above the Republic Base inside a tent.

As a level 50 Smuggler, combining 3 red shards yields http://www.torhead.com/item/auXJYeD/

Red Matrix Shard found at 779, 778 North on beach at Mantell Point, guarded by level 6 Elite.

Remak guards a Red Matrix Shard on the north beach of Mannett Point island on Ord Mantell. Don't go in the walled compound, you have to run north along the beach to reach the Shard.

This is as well found for the Republic Classes on Ord Mantal... Go to the Island with the Blow Up Bridge it is off to the far left in a small crater on the beach... Must fight three hovering droids and a tough human...

There is a second Red Matrix Shard available on Ilum. It's in a Republic Base, but it is possible for an Imperial player to get it solo if you time patrols just right.

For Sith -

As a lvl 26 Bounty hunter I used the assembly chamber on Dromund Kaas (in the western wall of the approach to the dark temple) to combine 3 crystal matrix shards in the following order (left to right) – Green, Blue, Red.

In return I got a relic for a lvl 15 with 15 aim and 10 endurance.
