It's gathered from Bacterial Colony (Requires Bioanalysis 25) and from animals on Balmorra (for example: Aging Bormu, I'd say 33% chance for Bacterial Strain).

On planet Balmorra, take speeder from Sobrik southwest to Marakan Plains. Northeast of the Droid Factory, the Stray Bormu give favorable drop rates. Search in the vicinity of 850, 1160.

I get some from Zeldrate Marshstalker on Marakan Plains of Balmorra (northeast of the Droid Factory). Search in the vicinity of 1170, 1430.

I confirm with Storm. I did this on my level 20 Sith Sorcerer. Fast respawn (you may have to wait about 1 minute for the 1st one you kill to respawn). Balmora for Imperials. Markaran Map. coordinates -891,138 facing East. There are 7 Stray Bormu (yellow names). They drop Green Goo (the most), Bacterial Strain, & Luminescent Cell Culture. I maxed my Bioanalysis at 130.

Yeah did all kinds of bioanalysis on the starting planets, but didn't loot any of these. Finally got one from a mission. Good to know you can farm them elsewhere.
