I picked up slicing and scavaging, mostly slicing for the increase in cash, so what creation profession would be good?
By Kelborn at 2012-01-08 01:47:32

Well, the cash gains from Slicing got nerfed quite a bit a patch or two ago. Since you have Scavenging, you can take anything that compliments it: Armormech, Armstech, or Cybertech. Also, without the proper Mission Skill for your Crafting prof, you cannot make any rare (prototype) or epic (artifact) quality gear unless someone has the mats for sale on the GTN (depending on your server they may or may not be available, and may or may not be overpriced). If you can grab the Mission Skill on another toon (say your BH takes Cybertech and your Agent takes Armormech w/ Underworld Trading) then you're okay.

I'd personally go with Cybertech, as it's the only prof that can make Ear pieces and Armoring, and I believe it may be one of two that can make Mods. You can also make Starship Upgrades and Droid Parts (so your ship droid can actually be a useful healer!).

I took Armormech on my Powertech and am kind of regretting it. I say "kind of" because it's very nice to be able to make off pieces like a belt and gloves before you can get a moddable one, and you can also make some very nice gear for Mako - whose healing is invaluable early on. Haven't looked at the ending recipes, but I'd imagine you can make moddable armor pieces at 400. The only thing I don't like about this is that all you can make is armor - no mods or anything else special.

Armstech is said to be bad by a lot of people, but you do get access to making your own Barrel item mods. At 400 skill you can also make your own orange moddable guns.

Slicing is still profitable.

My BH is 370 biochem atm for the reusable stims, adrenals and medpacks (implants sell well for profit too).

all my medical supplies have come from the gtn.

Cybertech. It's more useful than Armormech at max level, and your companion Mako gets a skill bonus to it.
By Jestunhi at 2012-01-08 13:42:09

I'd go either biochem (which I did) or cybertech and the main gathering skill for whichever you choose plus slicing.

You don't need the advanced materials from the mission skills for greens which means that you can level without them and just buy them when required for your own items.

I went Biochem, Bioanalysis, Slicing. Slicing is still profitable because of all the lock boxes you can find while your questing and the items you get from doing missions. I stick bountiful and rich missions and I wrote down my returns and I was in the plus column on credits.
By reddwolf at 2012-01-09 04:05:55

Slicing is fun but usually you barely make back your money you get out of the boxes for the price of the missions. plus if you get augments, rarely are they useful.

If you run Armormech take Underground Trading and Scavenging. underground trading gets you the undergruond metal for your advanced armors. and you can find luxury fabrics that you can auction for a good price.

I went armstech. Making barrels and Pistols seems to make sense since I use two of them and has saved me a fortune in having to either buy new guns or upgrades. I'm also betting that it might pay off even more down the road with new content releases for obvious reasons, as the current high end items are limited.

I already have a 400/400/400 biochem/analysis/diplo on my main so I was granted the lugery of being able to go with a little more complimentary skill on this toon. Since I plan on going Cybertech on my Ops and Armortech on my War I think I'll be able to cover most of the bases of self sufficiency. That's the basic idea anyway.

As for Armstech, though, I can't tell you how well being able to have a maxed out barrel in my modded blasters at all times. Also being able to keep Mako (and later on Gault, and other compantions) fitted in atleast same level greens/blues (since you can make everything from blasters, to rifles, to sniper rifles, to vibro knives/swords, and more!) that I craft does seem to be a nice, and practifcally free, benefit that keeps my sides kicks a little ahead of the curve.

If you do more than sit in fleet spamming missions slicing profits soar. Even with the missions it's still very much profitable if you run the right missions. Tier 6 moderate yield missions are not necessarily the best time to profit ratio.
By Dhamp at 2012-01-09 06:23:11
Slicing in the field is silly profitable, if you pick the right places to farm.

I feel the need to have 1 dps 1 healer and 1 tank so I got a Sniper because I like sniping in FPS and i had a hard time choosing what healing class to take. Was going to go with a Sith Sorc but then I realized how much it is overplayed on my server I said F that. I knew what the Merc healing is like from a friend and I wasn't impressed with it so much so I made an Operative and I'm loving it, even though I have to play threw the same story oh well IE story is EPIC in it's self and ones good other is evil. I plan on making a Power tech for tanking but I'm not sure what crew skills to take on him. the skills I have now are;
Sniper: Armstech, Scavenging, and Investigation
Operative: Biochem, Bioanalysis, and Diplomacy

For the Power tech I want either Cybertech or armortech but I'm not sure.
What do you guys think?

After playing 4 charts to lvl 15-20 i figured what the hell i don´t wanna go for any crafting yet I`ll simply just wanna do gathering and then sell the whole lot on AH and that my friend is the moneymaker of the century cause you get gear so fast anyways just like any other MMO.
But as soon as I turn 50 I`ll begin crafting as armstech for sure.

cheers

I'm lvl 40 Vanguard Trooper atm with Armstech, Scavenging and Slicing. Using Slicing as a way of generating money atm but planning to drop it as soon as Armstech gets to 400 and pick up Investigation
By Tropics21 at 2012-01-26 16:03:52
Ok
At this very moment. Biochem Is still the best PVE and PVP proffession. I leveled armormech made the Rakata pieces to drop it and get the Unlimited and Best Stims, Medpacs, and Adrenal.. The best Part, they are reusable.. Why have any other proffession.. You never have to buy raid items.
By jgranson at 2012-02-01 13:18:08
Currently 37 Merc with around 375 armstech 350 scavenging and 300 investigation. I was SOO close dropping Investigation and picking up Slicing. Im SOO glad i didnt. I can RARELY find any of the investigation mats i need for making more then green barrels and blasters. Having fully mod-able blasters, the only real benefit for making actual blasters is for Mako(currently) and making Sniper rifles for Gault. Not to mention vibro-knives for Mako as well. Making and selling Barrels can be profitable as well. At least on my server.

Scavanging/Cybertech/UT

Cybertech has easy to make Purples. Metals for UT make a killing on certain servers (i.e. 2 Mullinine for 1k. 10 for 10k. Undercut = Profit). Grenades are great for BH, not having to upgrade Chest/Legs is a money saver. Sell excess mats for coin also. So far, the combination is nothing but credits. No need for Slicing.

By redrabbit at 2012-02-07 04:08:21

Slicing was actually useful for me until i hit lvl 50... then realized that the profits off it wasn't cutting it, so i decided to go with Cybertech(400), Scavenge(400) or till I got enough mats for what ever else I need in the future, Slicing(400) till I basically hit lvl 50. After all that is done I decided to drop Scavenge and Slicing and went Biochem(400) only because it ended up saving me a ton of credits on upgrades.... the upgrades on gear at 50 is quite expensive and you might considering making your own things. Then I also went to Bioanalysis(400) till I was able to obtain enough goods out of it and I got to say the profits from any sold left overs was surprising. So I basically now have Cybertech and Biochem all at (400) which for a BH is "Very" useful, and now decided I just wanted something to bring me in raining credits, so I decided to take up Treasure Hunting. The reason for that? Simple, I realized that using just Slicing wasn't enough in terms farming credits. The boxes that you hunt don't give enough, and the missions cost just as much as you get back for "Successful Missions".... Also the Augments are actually quite useless to hunt for with Missions, they have a sell price set usually at 210 Credits each.... the missions cost over 1,000 Credits for Tier 6 Missions. So back to Treasure Hunting, why do I think it is a smart choice? Because the chests for both hunting from resources, and the Missions you send your companions on sell for twice as much as you do in Slicing in terms of Tier 6 Missions. Plus I have hunted quite a few useful items that became handy and useful for either future characters as well as my current character. Either way every class requires some items/gear from each individual Crew Skill Training.

I'm sorry to mention that I am a BH/PowerTech I found that the Stims were very benefiting in both PvE/PvP due to the fact that Powertech is a up close and personal kind of character. They drop in health quite easily when those shields drop, so being healthy, strong, and top notch is always a plus. The great mods and bombs that Cybertech give are also great in terms they "SAVE" your a** like no joke... I'm sorry but the problem with BH is lack of stuns and immobilizing skills, the bombs will fill that void right up + your slow effects from pyrotech if you are spec'd with it. Good enough time for quick vent for a loop in hotkey's, cooldowns, and also my favorite healing.... Do not forget that just because you have a jet pack and flamethrowers does not necessarily make you God. Powertechs have no healing abilities except for Kolto, and Mako if you use her. So I hope this helps some of the Powertech users, sorry if it doesn't help but helped me a ton and hope it does the same for who ever else decides to try it this way.
