Bounty hunter Tank vs. Heal specs.

I played shieldtech in the beta and liked it, and planned on going tank in the release. After doing some research, I see that going mercenary, and going bodyguard is a funky type of healing spec. As I can only choose between a Tank class and a Heal class, I'm wondering if the Healing spec for BH is worth it. I've seen Sorcerers and Operative heals, and they've been phenomenal. I'll probably stick with Shield tech, but I would like input from anyone if the BH heal is as viable as other heals, and experience from people who have tried it out.

p.s. I would do it myself, but my gfx card got fried, and I'm waiting on a replacement.

Its not really funky... Its really like playing a wow shaman with heat (energy) instead of mana (which isnt really fun to deal with). Theyre definitely the least viable PvP healers, since they have a distinct lack of mobility. Theyre also overplayed.

Needless to say, I wish I had rolled powertech.

I just did what I felt was the toughest flashpoint yet (Colicoid War Games - level 42) and we had a mercenary solo healing it. Nobody died through any fault of his (there are a few bugs and knockbacks which got some people killed, but not healing)

I went Merc because of the healing tree. I'm not going to play a dedicated healer but it's nice, especially while grouping, to switch to heals when the dps is handled by the others. I normally play heals in MMOs (druid/paladin formerly in WoW, Minstrel in LOTRO) so it's a natural fit for me since I also really enjoy the Bounty Hunter story. I only hope I don't have to play 2 BH characters and have one as a dedicated healer and the other freeform.

Imho Merc healing is quite interesting. I mean, shooting with blasters at people to heal. levelling as arsenal for the moment, but switching to bodyguard is something i'm considering. did various heroic 4 quests and FPs with merc healers tho (pre lvl 40), and they did pretty fine, having time even to do some dps from time to time. in a way they do resemble resto shamans from wow, with physical area based aoe heals iirc, similar to healing rain.
regarding rolling a 2nd BH. i'm doing that, cuz i love the class/storyline, PT tank and Merc dps

Same here but running PT DPS and Merc Heal. I've always loved Bounty Hunters in and out of SWTOR

I dont see the point in leveling 2 Bounty Hunters unless you want one to Tank and one to Heal. Heal spec is fine for questing. If anything it makes those elites a little easier to take down. I have leveled from 25ish to 42 as Bodyguard spec(started as arsenal but wanted to try out heals). No issues. It might take a little time to down mobs. But so what. Also If dont think BW is going to bring duel spec in the future you're a fool.

jgranson: Yeah, BioWare will be adding dual spec, but I highly doubt you'll be able to switch your Advanced Class. That would be ridiculous. The point of making two Bounty Hunters is so one can go Mercenary (Healing/DPS/DPS) and one can go Powertech (Tank/DPS/DPS).

Thats exactly what i said........

I'm pretty sure the "unless you want one to Tank and one to Heal." line was not there when I made that post, but I could be wrong and won't pursue an argument over that.

Good. Because you are wrong. I haven't edited that post.
