So, what's everyone's favorite style of music? Any bands or songs you'd recommend?

I, myself, have started listening to Abney Park, Paradise Lost and some Lacuna Coil recently. And, of course, waited avidly for the new Nightwish album. I hear it's going to save Annette.

Quite a few of those, actually. I've been listening to Within Temptation, Paradise Lost, Abney Park, Nightwish, Opeth, Dream Theater, Lacrimus Profundere, Blackmoore's Night and Zeromancer for the last few days.

^ I actually really like that song, even though that's a music scene I'm usually really not that into.

You need to drop the spaces before and after "url" for those to work correctly.

Hyper: Was hoping you would put something from Still Life or Blackwater Park instead of Heritage from Opeth. Though Heritage is fantastic (had to see it live to be persuaded, heh), people might get the impression that Opeth is a softy band! NEVAR!
And nice song choice for Demons & Wizards. <3

In any case:
Woodkid (yes, I know this is from Assassin's Creed trailer. Does not make it any less fantastic!)
The Agonist
Ending Tyranny (local band, but very good.)
Arkona (A clip of this song was actually featured on The Office! )
[] Witchery
[] Legion of the Damned

Might be playing to a different crowd here, but here's to hoping, I guess :P

Bah, can't edit my post! I'm dying looking at my mistakes T_T

While I am an active participant in the heavy metal / viking metal / death metal scene, I can't really consider myself a huge fan of the "screaming" sort of death growls. I much prefer the growls found in Cry For The Moon as opposed to those in like Solsagan for instance. Don't get me wrong, I'm a metalhead through and through, I just have a bit more of an affinity for melody than most metalheads.

@Funden: Have you grabbed Imaginaerum yet? No way in hell I was waiting for the US release, so I grabbed a copy of an overseas version, but I'm definitely putting money down when it gets here.
By Obitron at 2011-12-22 12:25:13
@Hyper: Though I don't mind clean vocals in metal, that type just doesn't sit well with me. I cannot stand listening to female operatic vocals, but I love their counterpart singing that way. I'm not sure why >_>
Also, speaking of Epica ...
Thought it was appropriate :D
By Funden at 2011-12-23 17:22:36

Ugh, no I haven't. I want to, but I also don't have the money to spend to get it shipped all the way over here.

I'm still waiting for the US release QQ.

Also, I'm hoping that the movie is released in theaters. If it is, I'm getting midnight tickets faster than you can blink.

While I do love 3-4 songs on the album very much, another of the songs on the album is officially my least favorite Nightwish song of all time, and their 13 minute "artistic" track is nowhere near as good as The Poet and the Pendulum in my opinion. Marco does have more voice parts, which is something I really like, and the entire album is still distinctively Nightwish-esque, so they haven't lost their feel.

So all in all I'm a bit divided on the album as a whole.

By Funden at 2011-12-23 19:59:06
Does Marco do any voice parts like he did on Romanticide and I Wish I had an Angel? Those were my favorite parts that he's done, in all honesty.
By Hyperspacerebel at 2011-12-23 20:08:06
He's all over the place. He's got one or two like Wish I Had An Angel and he has more melodic melodies.
The album is popping up all over youtube, but is constantly being taken down, but you might like this one if you like the above two:

I'm going to wait until I actually get the album before I listen. SO NO SPOILERS.
