Sith Sorcerer

The dark side holds dangerous secrets and immense power. The Sorcerer draws energy from the Force's forbidden depths, mastering techniques that sap and drain enemies as they invigorate allies or simply wreak utter devastation. The air around a Sorcerer crackles with lightning, and all the foolish enough oppose a Sorcerer know suffering on a vast scale.

All Sith Sorcerers embrace the power of the Force and can opt to learn the arts of Lightning, unleashing powerful storms and crushing opponents; Corruption, binding a Sorcerer's life force and strengthening allies through rituals that mitigate blows and knight flesh; and Madness, afflicting targets with nightmares that cripple their combat prowess and drain them of strength.

A lot of people (in various forums) seem to be debating which healer is going to be best, so to break it down a bit based off their skills and skill trees I feel its safe to say:
Once you choose an Advance Class (AC), it cant be undone, but you CAN respec your skill trees for any one AC. keep this in mind when choosing. All of the healer classes have different resource systems, but each of them has at least one small, spammable, "free" heal that doesn't use any resources. It won't be enough to get through tight spots, but it will make resource management tolerable.

SI sorcs will have castable damage shields (think wow priest PW shield) and channeled or cast timed heals (mostly reactionary) with a recharging, mana-esque resource. It has a battle res. Its dps respec is a typical caster: cast timed burst spells, as well as some channeled DoTs and large aoes.

IA opers will have a single target HoT heal and then cast timed and reactionary instant heals with a constantly recharging energy system (think wow rogues). It has the ability to stealth and it has a battle res as well. Its dps respec is a melee class that can specialize in burst damage or poisons. It has some ranged skills, but not enough to keep it out of melee range effectively.

BH mercs will have a reactionary healing shield castable with multiple charges on a single target (think shammy earth shield from wow). and then the typical healing skill set. It uses a heat system that builds up with skills and dissipates over time, with a few mechanics to help lower it back down and a number of heat-less skills to keep it low. It does NOT have a battle res. Its dps spec is a ranged class that has some CCs and can either burn through all its heat in a quick burst or use a more sustained rotation to keep heat low (pvp vs pve maybe?)

It appears you can pick and choose from the specialization trees, but i doubt you will see such a mix too much in pve, but will likely be prevalent in pvp for a mix of survivability and dps.
I know some people only care about numbers, but for those who care about how a class plays, I hope this helped.

There are five primary/basic character attributes in SWTOR: Endurance, Aim, Cunning, Strength and Willpower. Endurance gives you 10 HP per single point, and the other four stats increase your class’ base damage and critical chance:

All primary stats give 1% crit for every 140 (at level 50)
Aim gives 0.2 ranged damage
Strength gives 0.2 melee damage
Cunning gives 0.2 tech damage
Will power gives 0.2 force damage

Secondary Statistics:
Presence – boost companion health, damage and healing
Power – adds melee, force and tech damage
Force/Tech Power – found on weapons, works like Power but does not provide melee/ranged damage
Accuracy – Gives +hit and gives armor/spell pen over 100%
Crit – gives melee, force and tech crit
Surge – increased critical damage
Armor – reduces physical and kinetic damage (all Tech and Force powers unless listed otherwise are Kinetic)
Defense – increases Parry/Deflect (deflect is just ranged parry)
Shield – increases chance to be shielded on attack
Absorption – increases the % of damage shaved off shielded attacks
Alacrity – cast/channel Haste
Expertise – PvP stat. Increases damage and healing done, reduces damage taken.

DelayedReality said:Be aware that if you play as a damage caster for Sorcerer that you will be immediately hated by the group who snagged you up because of your limited heals. Most people assume you're strictly a healer - at least so far. We'll see how this goes after launch. :)

I don't think it'll be so bad this time around because MMOs have made some progress since WoW's early days (shaman = resto, OOMkin druid, paladin = holy, etc). If people can't figure out that a player can choose their own role within a class nowadays, well... /shrug

This is a fantastic guide for the Sith Inquisitor including Rotations and everything you will need to know to begin raiding.

http://exvotos.com/theorycrafting/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=623

Their main priority list however is

1. Affliction [DoT]
2. Crushing Darkness
3. Thundering Blast
4. Lightning Barrage
5. Force Lightning
6. Lightning Storm
7. Chain Lightning
8. Lightning Strike

Remember this is a PRIORITY LIST - NOT A ROTATION

Primary Stats---

The base stats at the moment are Strength, Aim, Endurance, Cunning, Willpower and Presence.

* All primary stats give 1% crit for every 140 (at level 50)
*Aim gives 0.2 ranged damage
*Strength gives 0.2 melee damage
*Cunning gives 0.2 tech damage
*Will power gives 0.2 force damage

1. Strength is a melee stat (increases melee damage, melee crit and shield absorption).
2. Aim is a stat useful to classes using ranged blaster weapons (increases ranged damage and ranged crit).
3. Endurance is a tanking stat (increases health and health regen).
4. Cunning is a stat useful to classes using technological attacks (increases tech damage and tech crit).
5. Willpower increases the damage dealt with force abilities and their critical chance.

Secondary Stats---

Presence – boots companion health, damage and healing

24 Sorcerer here. Focus on solo PvE. I first tried the Lightning tree and found the power potential low. Switched to Madness and have not looked back. It's a simple spec which makes Force Lightning into your bread and butter power. You can amp it up by 12% and also remove it's timer (although it still must respect global cooldown). Coupled with death field (insta cast), it allows you to quickly take down small groups (2-3) of normal opponents. Strong opponents also fall quickly with a combination of your dots, shock, and force lightning.

I really do not see the value proposition of the Lightning tree. Does anyone? What would be the reason to use it instead of Madness?

Like any other specialization, you have to be level 10 before you can get the quest to pick a specialization.

after playing this class 3 times in beta I got used to it more and more, I lvl'd as a healer but only got to lvl 12 but i fount it easy to play as a healer and through in some dps aswell and cc's which helped alot for the people that didn't know the black talon . I think if you want to choose this class as a helaer spec and lvl at the same time you should have no problems just remember to use all you have at your dispossal much like any sith would do :P.

Now I have read every comment in this line, so let me share my opinion on a Sith Sorcerer.

I have it as my main. Now I have level 32. My spec is pure Lightning( at this exact point I have already two points in Forked Lightning as well as one in Polarity Shift ). I have to say, that I entered Alderaan for my first time in life( a few hours ago ) and the first impression is awesome. I just left the road leading out of Thule Palace and began to ride towards some quest and a first time encounter stood in my path - level 38 Jedi Knight with two lightsabers( dunno which advanced class it is ). I said to myself, why not to try it. So I tried, he did not summon his companion, instead of it, he jumped right at me, so I sent my Khemmie at him and began to light(ning) him out. Then he died and I had like 80% HP at the end :) What was wrong? He underestimated me :))))

In warzones it is just the same, I use affliction, lightning( force lightning) and shielding myself or others... I often come from a warzone with like 15k xp and about 300k damage and a few cups( like one for a killing blow etc. ).

This class is for me just superb and I love this character so much :)

And for heroic quests and areas, I went on Tatooine for all the heroic 4(2+) quests just all by myself and of course, my Khemmie and we never had problem to kill whatever we wanted to :)

This cannot be overstated. Unless the target of your healing is dropping health rapidly, sitting back and waiting to heal someone or only casting heals will prolong fights, piss off your group, and run you out of focus quickly. Helping to down targets as well as healing is necessary, and keeps fights fun (balancing DPS and heals is a neat feature). Just don't forget to heal 1st, DPS 2nd... I did once or twice... easy to get caught up in the fun.

Working on builds before beta participation. Where can i find more information on what willpower and alacrity do for a sorcerer. I dont expect stat weighting this early, but some basic description will help to guestimate its importance and scaling. Like talenting Polarity Shift or Will of the Sith

By Noevil at 2011-11-23 17:58:22
Willpower if your main stat. The more you get the better off you are. Alacrity allows you to reduce the cast/channel time on abilities. AKA, Haste.

I was going up the healing tree and was able to solo well with my companion. You shield him, send him in, CC another, attack, heal as needed. CC is 1 minute. I leveled up to 23. Dps was still adequate. On 4 mans i was able to generally heal & dps. Fun class but I want to explore others as well.

Currently the strongest healer in PvE

Currently the strongest class in all warzones except maybe deathstar

People coming from WoW will try and pigeon-hole this class into healing only. In fact, they'll want to try and do that to all classes. What they'll come to realize is that all classes can spec to fulfill 1 of 2 roles equally well (and occasionally a little of a 3rd).

... now if they'll just implement dual-specs.

Incidentally I leveled a healing sorc up to 42 in beta. It was a lot of fun and as doable as going DPS.

I have to dissagree, if you group with people that want you as a healer to fight then I would not group with them. If you are a healer your job is to heal, I have healed in WOW and Guild Wars, and I have seen healers fighting and team wipes follow. Why as a healer would you go out in a group and start hitting the enemy making yourself a big target. You start taking damage who heals you? you start healing yourself who heals the group? I have been in groups with lousy healers and healers with little concentration, if you start fighting as a healer then your doomed. No point to it at all. If you feel you need to fight as a healer get another proff in the game because its obvious its not for you. Only a group leader with the IQ of a squashed goosberry would want his healer taking hits.

I started to play a healer the last time I was in the beta. I have to say that I didn't get higher than lvl 12 but I have heard that lvling a healer is not harder than lvling a dps. Healers don't just sit in the back in ToR. They meant for them to do damage in between heals.

Leveling as a Sith Sorcerer on Live, specced up the middle Lightning tree, had no problem main healing 4 man Flashpoints. Taking on Elites and Champions, non Flashpoint boss type, was easy. Send in Companion with a Force Shield, CC 1 target, nuke the other, keep Force shield on Khem, easy peasy

HOW IS BETTER SITH ASSASSIN OR SORCERER

By havoc64 at 2011-12-22 11:06:01
I am running a Sorc going up the corrpution tree. My plan is to be 31 Corruption / 10 Lightning. I am staying focused on Willpower as that gives me Better crit chances with my healing. I do love healing as a sorcerer as I also get a fair chance to do some DPS while in a flashpoint, and the party soon realizes that Whirlwind CC is a good thing...lol

Im leveling a Sith Sorc and am currently up to level 16. Healing in PvP is a bit frustrating though I do think it will get better once I get more heals and deeper into the tree. I plan on respeccing into the Madness tree. The lightning tree also looks fun. I do mostly class quests and stay in queue for PvP. Any input would be appreciated.

Im a lvl 29 Sorc (healer) and I've had few problems levelling. The only time I really die is when I'm stupid and try to solo Heroic 2 / Heroic 4 zones, by myself. By max rank I figure a 31/9/0 build; with 1 flavour point will be optimal.

i like corruption quite alot, the preventive aspect makes it a bit of a challenge to play, and therefore more interesting.
the thing that pisses me off, especially with madness, is that its so damn MORBID, like Death Field, Creeping Terror, its kind of depressing. almost made me reroll as a jedi sage

" never underestimate the power of the force". A spec that can combine heals and dps at a low level is usually in MMOs considered weak. This will not be the case in the Sorcerer. Can't wait to see this class in action!

One of the best classes for 1v1 as of the current beta build.

Did someone tried leveling with a healing spec ?
Is it still pleasant to play ?

I want to heal, but I am not sure if I must start dps and respec later or if the corruption tree is viable for leveling.
