While active, the guarded player takes 5% less damage and generates 25% less threat. In addition, so long as you remain within 15 meters of the guarded player, 50% of all incoming damage from enemy players is transferred back to you. Requires Soresu Form.

I just wish they would fix Guard. It falls off constantly. Mount up, Guard falls off. Change zone, Guard falls off. Send your companion to sell, Guard falls off.

Great ability for Flashpoints and Operations,

Cannot use on self, can use on companion and any party or raid member. It appears best suited for a strong melee/range DPS. Also could be used on a healer for fear of healer taking damage.

By default, I use it on melee dps as a tank.

Two reasons:
1) by indirect observation I have an inkling that the "melee distance players overaggro more easily" rule from WoW (something like 110% threat for melee and 130% for ranged) also applies to TOR (not sure on this one)

2) if a melee overaggros, it is less noticeable (the mob doesn't have to move, it just faces another way) and you have less time to react and taunt before the mob starts whacking your friend

Switch accordingly ofc if your ranged dps are consistently producing more threat.

If you are confident in your threat-generation and are doing precision kills (ignoring some mobs altogether), you should put this on the healer.

An example of this situation is the 3-droid boss encounter in Dircetive 7. You do not want to be hitting the droid that has the reflective shield too much and your healer might end up getting aggro at some point (usually before the first shield switch).

Solution - Guard the healer and land 1-2 AoE moves (like Smash), but not more so as not to take too much damage yourself.
