At level 50, Static Barrier absorbs 1162 + 327% of Force Healing Bonus before talents.

With the Lightning tree talent Lightning Barrier, this puts the absorption at around 3200 damage in Rakata operations gear, 12-15% of the max HP of a similarly geared tank.

I'm finding this extremely useful whilst levelling. Pop it on your companion and yourself and on a normal pack of mobs, no health change. I have specced into extra absorbtion, as that helps nicely. I'd recommend putting at least 1 point in the "Once it pops, mobs get blinded". I find that if you're close (say melee / 4m) to mobs when it pops (which can be it's fulled absorbed or it naturally expires) then they get blinded and interupts casters.

Great for Huttball too...

I suppose an issue comes forth when you level Corruption specced as I am. By level 32, even against solo normal mobs the barrier absorbs very little, and then Khem Val starts taking damage again, though at levels 14 - 20-ish I am in agreement with the above.

Also, due to the use of the healing abilities in the deep Corruption tree, it is impossible to get to Backlash in the Lightning tree while also progressing as a healer, or as Madness spec, but Madness has a number of cool cc stuff related to Whirlwind and Electrocute.

I'm using Static Barrier all the time, and finding it rarely get's fully absorbed. Tho, I am putting out some fairly decent burst damage so the mobs go down quickly and me and the Clown take no damage. I'm at level 33 now, and taking on elites i'm finding the bubble is massively helpful.

Talents that affect Static Barrier:
Corruption (healing tree)
Efficacious Currents - Reduces the Force cost of Static Barrier by 15/30 and reduces the cooldown of Static Barrier by 1.5/3 seconds.
Fadeout - Static Barrier increases the target's movement speed by 10/20% for 3 seconds.

Lightning (DPS tree)
Lightning Barrier - Increases the amount absorbed by your Static Barrier by 10/20%.
Backlash - Your Static Barrier has a 50/100% chance to erupt in a flash of light when it ends, blinding all nearby enemies for 3 seconds. Damage causes this effect to end prematurely.

Unfortunately, as a healer, you can't take 2/2 Willpower (6% Willpower), 2/2 Subversion (Force regen) and 2/2 Lightning Barrier (as above). This is the only healing spec I've found where you have to choose to take 1/2 in a useful talent (or ignore the talent and put your points elsewhere).

ToR's version of Power Word:Shield. Talented it's worth keeping up as much as possible on as many targets as needed.

Even though the absorption doesn't feel like it's doing as much in the mid 30's as it did in the 20's, it's still a great tool. Mob Damage does a serious jump in the 30's, and any class heading into Alderan for the first time can attest to that. My Jugg and Shadow consular took a severe beating going into the 30's, and it wasn't until the late 30's when gear/skills caught up that i started to feel comfortable again. IMO this is still one of the most powerful solo and raid tools available in the game. With it's shorter CD you can alternate between you and your companion pretty regularly. But it doesn't take the place of proper skill usage. as you gain levels, you will want to use the tools you have handy for crowd control. there's a reason Sorcs/Sages get a minute long CC and the melee classes don't ...put it to use. though this is a powerful tool, it is only one of many tools in the Sorc/Sage arsenal.
